Newcomers supports charities through monies earned and/or donated at the meetings or special events. Whether it comes from a portion of the annual dues or from the raffles that are held at each meeting, it all adds up to helping where we can.
One of the charities we focus on is the Casa Hogar Douglas/Children's Orphanage.
The Children's home is located south of Monterrey on highway 85. It currently has 90 children from birth to age 17 who have been dropped off by a relative or the government and are cared for fulltime by the staff there. The Parent organization is called World Missionary Evangelism and is located out of Dallas, Texas. They provide money every month that covers some of the operating expenses. The children's home has been there for about 40 years. The rest of their financing is provided by other donations solicited from Mexico or other US organizations.
The children come from a variety of backgrounds, some are completely abandoned, some have families that due to ill health, poverty, new marriages, jail time or abuse situations, can not care for them anymore.
The children attend public school and welcome visitors anytime.
If you are interested in helping with any of the needs, participating in a work day, or becoming a "big brother/sister" to one of the children, please contact Beth Guckenberger at bethtodd@aol.com or Kristin Kailey k2kailey@gmail.com
